Spring Juried Art Show Features Works by Women or About Women & Girls

REFLECTING WOMEN'S WELLNESS is a juried art show, featuring art by women or about women or girls.  It was created as part of the celebration of Women & Girls' Wellness Month in April to demonstrate the importance of art to women's well being, for the artist and the observer.

The show not only raises awareness of art as part of women's wellness, it is a way to support WHV's outreach, research and education programs.  Particpating artists agree to donate a portion of the sales of art in the show to Women’s Health Virginia.

The 2008 show was at the Atrium at the James Center, 1051 East Cary Street, in Richmond from April 5 to 26. The show includes 42 pieces in varied media by 30 Virginia artists. The pieces were selected by jurors Andrea Douglas, Curator of Collections & Exhibits, University of Virginia Art Museum, Laura Jones, owner of Migration: A Gallery, located in Charlottesville, and Beryl Solla, chair of the Art Department at Piedmont Virginia Community College.

The prize-winners were:

1st Prize:   Aimee Helen Koch for her photograph Shirt #2.
2nd prize:   Alice C. Murphy for her watercolor Cousins in Cahoots
3rd Prize:   Ichshe Sandler for her collage Tutti Frutti
